Brian Lara had held the record for the highest individual Test score once already, 375 not out against England in 1994, before Australia's Matthew Hayden took it from him in 2003. Facing England again at the Antigua Recreation Ground in April 2004, Lara set about reclaiming it.
He batted for two minutes short of thirteen hours, faced 582 deliveries and hit 43 fours and 4 sixes, grinding down an England attack across several days before reaching 400, the first batsman in Test history to pass that mark.
No one else has held the Test record for the highest individual score twice, and more than two decades later nobody has passed 400 either. Both of those are still his.
