Chicago were a point down to the Utah Jazz with under a minute left in game six of the 1998 NBA Finals, holding a three-games-to-two lead in the series. Jordan scored to put the Bulls in front, then, on Utah's next possession, came round behind Karl Malone in the post and took the ball off him.
He brought it up the floor himself, took a couple of dribbles to make room against Bryon Russell, and rose from the top of the key with 5.2 seconds showing. It went through clean. Chicago won by a single point, and it was Jordan's sixth championship from six Finals appearances, each of which he finished as Finals MVP.
For years it was taken to be his last shot in a Bulls uniform, his second retirement following soon after, and the ending read as though somebody had written it in advance. The freeze-frame of the follow-through, arm still extended after the release, did the rest.
