Leicester City survived relegation from the Premier League by just seven points in the 2014-15 season, staying up only after winning seven of their last nine games. Bookmakers priced them at 5000-to-1 to win the title the following year, longer odds than several entirely fictional or unlikely events offered for comparison at the time.
Under manager Claudio Ranieri, built around a front line of Jamie Vardy, a striker playing non-league football only five years earlier, and Riyad Mahrez, Leicester led the table for most of the season and were confirmed champions on 2 May 2016 without even playing, after second-placed Tottenham drew with Chelsea.
It is widely regarded as the greatest upset in the history of English top-flight football and one of the biggest in team sport worldwide, a title won not by one of the league's usual small group of wealthy clubs but by a team that had been battling relegation twelve months earlier.
