Series outcome
The Minnesota Twins were three games to two down to the Atlanta Braves in a 1991 World Series that people who watched it still rate among the closest and best played, and Game 6 at the Metrodome on 26 October was an elimination game. Kirby Puckett, the Twins' star centre fielder, more or less took it on himself.
He went up against the Plexiglas in centre field to take a likely extra-base hit away from Ron Gant, drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and added a triple. With the score level in the bottom of the 11th inning he led off against the Atlanta reliever Charlie Leibrandt and put the ball over the wall in left-centre for a walk-off home run.
Jack Buck's call, 'and we'll see you tomorrow night', has lasted as long as the swing. Tomorrow night was Game 7, which the Twins won 1-0 behind Jack Morris pitching a ten-inning shutout.
